Calcutta Social Project – India

Education Centers for Youth

Mumbai, New Delhi, and Kolkata are estimated to have more than 1 million street children combined, most of which with little to no formal education. Founded in 1969 and registered in 1972, Calcutta Social Project (CSP) began by distributing powdered milk to children in South Calcutta’s slums. Initially focused on nutrition and healthcare, CSP evolved to address broader anti-poverty measures, including education and income generation.

Impacts of Covid-19

In the 2020s, CSP adapted to new challenges such as rising inequality and COVID-19 by implementing food distribution, medical aid, and online education. Committed to transforming lives, CSP empowers youth through vocational training and extracurricular activities, fostering confidence and entrepreneurship. With over 50 years of service, CSP continues to break the cycle of poverty, creating a brighter future for marginalized communities.

Women of Kolkata

At CSP, underprivileged women in Kolkata are able to engage crucial skills to support themselves and their families. Programs like the woman’s craft center allow women to gain valuable vocational training and reliable income.

Focus on the Future

The leadership at CSP is committed to a journey of progress and empowerment to create meaningful change in the lives of those who are denied a future due to circumstances of birth.

Through their many programs, CSP is creating lasting impact for the social stratification of women and children in Kolkata.

Sports and Talent

An emphasis on sports is to extend outreach to children from ultra poor backgrounds, teaching self confidence and discourage their general fear of academics. This program enormously helps with these children’s educational mainstreaming.
